In Mexico, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a celebration like no other—a vibrant tradition where we honor those who have passed, inviting their spirits back to join us in remembrance and celebration.
This year, we’ve added an unexpected figure to the festivities, one whose impact on the world has been profound yet whose identity remains shrouded in mystery: Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin.
Honoring Satoshi Nakamoto: Why an Altar?
For many, Satoshi Nakamoto represents the spirit of financial freedom, decentralization, and innovation. Nobody knows if he’s dead or alive since he disappeared only two years after creating Bitcoin. By creating an altar, we’re symbolically placing Satoshi within this deep-rooted tradition, alongside other figures who have transformed society. The altar is a bridge—a connection between Mexican culture and Bitcoin culture, which share values of resilience, independence, and community.
Satoshi’s creation, Bitcoin, has impacted millions globally and has inspired the foundation of places like La Casa de Satoshi, where people can gather, collaborate, and work on Bitcoin projects. As Bitcoiners, we’re constantly reminded of the courage and vision it took to create Bitcoin, so this altar is a gesture of gratitude—a way to “invite” Satoshi to join our celebration and to honor the path they paved.
The Roles of Swapido and La Casa de Satoshi
Swapido is a Mexico-based exchange that provides a fast, seamless way to convert bitcoin to pesos via the Lightning Network. With just a few taps, Bitcoiners in Mexico can use their BTC to make real-world transactions.
We wanted to use this opportunity to introduce Swapido to the wider Mexican Bitcoiner community and showcase how easily they can integrate Bitcoin into their daily lives. Read more about our launch here.
La Casa de Satoshi has become an essential space for Bitcoiners in Mexico, providing a place for meetups, discussions, and collaborative projects. It’s a home for those driven by the same spirit as Satoshi—a passion for Bitcoin and freedom technologies and a commitment to building a better financial future.
By combining Swapido’s technology with La Casa de Satoshi’s sense of community, we’re helping to spread the word about the power of Bitcoin in Mexico, educating people on how they can use these tools and welcoming them into a vibrant network of like-minded individuals.
